Assessment Process

If you have concerns about your child's learning, contact me for a free consultation to determine if a psychoeducational assessment is right for your child.  There are several factors that determine the appropriateness of an assessment.  Our initial consultation will determine if a psychoeducational assessment is the best course of action at this point in time.

If it is determined by both parties that a psychoeducational assessment is appropriate, an intake meeting will be arranged.  At this meeting we will discuss the specifics of the assessment and the obligations of all parties involved.  We will also complete a background interview to further examine the areas of concern, as well as gather information about your child's early development.  Following this interview, an appropriate course of action for your child will be determined and discussed with you.  The assessment will involve examination of a combination of the following:

Intellectual Ability

Academic Achievement

Adaptive Functioning

Attention Skills

Social/Emotional Functioning

Behavioral Functioning

The next step in the assessment process is one-on-one Testing session(s) with your child.  During these testing sessions, your child will work through various activities which examine the areas outlined above.   additional information gathering through observations, rating scales, and interviews with educators (if required) may also be completed.

Following testing, the results of the assessment, as well as any clinical diagnoses/impressions will be shared with you.  Recommendations for any further investigation (e.g. medical referral, interventions) may also be discussed at this point.  You will be provided with a Psychoeducational Assessment Report which can be shared with individuals you deem appropriate (e.g. medical professionals, school staff, etc.)
